Ticking the Boxes

What a relief.

This time last week, Warrior Nation was under attack. The noises were deafening, the opposition relentless and the suffering immense. We were weak, vulnerable, and some saw it as a perfect opportunity to come in for the kill.

Then came team-naming Tuesday, and the return of Simon Mannering gave us hope. As a veteran of many battles, and a man with great courage and commitment, he was someone we could believe in, someone who we knew would fight hard to restore honour to the Warrior name. House of Cards

On Saturday night at Pepper Stadium, it took the Warriors just forty minutes to craft a work of absolute beauty. Guided by the steady hands of Kieran Foran, they built their biggest lead of the season, stacking up try after try until the score grew to 28–6. It was a mixture of precision,

Hard-earned

Boy, did we need those two points.

As Mitchell Pearce slotted the field goal that put the Roosters ahead with 5 minutes to go, it felt like deja vu all over again. A courageous effort, against quality opposition, but ultimately Warrior Nation was about to finish second once more. Spirit levels were as damp as our clothes as we struggled to comprehend how a roster this talented could be so far off the playoff pace by the representative round. Frustration boiled over into gasps and groans as another unstructured play broke down.

And then, to the surprise of almost everyone at the ground, including the Sky Sports commentary team, Ashley Klein, the marvellous man that he is, pressed his whistle to his lips. It didn’t matter that no one really knew what had happened, all that mattered was that Ashley, wonderful Ashley, was pointing to the posts.

But, despite the NRL transfer process currently being an unwanted distraction from the regular season, unfortunately we seem to be stuck with it, at least in the short term. So, instead of complaining about what a farce it is that Kieran Foran has played just three games for the club and already has to make a decision about whether he wants to stay for another year, below is a list of all the current Warriors off-contract at the end of 2017 and my arguments for whether the club should hold them or fold them.
